Korean Peninsula: China continues to encourage talks

BEIJING – A Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tuesday reiterated China's stance on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula. 

There is an opportunity to return to negotiations over the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, spokesperson Lu Kang said, calling for encouragement and support.

The United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have expressed their willingness to have direct dialogue, he said during a press briefing.

China firmly adheres to the goal of denuclearization, peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula as well as supports dialogue and negotiation to resolve the issue, said Lu.

The spokesperson said China will continue its role in encouraging the parties concerned to use dialogue to achieve peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
